Aussie Superior to V Papnelli freak runner (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) The conditions were favorable fdr {he keenly awaited contest between Auckland/s pair of crack sprinters, Aussie arid Paganelli m the Newmarket Handicap on New Year's .Day. • DOTH had been Avithdra\vn from the Railway Handicap on account of the soft nature of the ground, and they met under fair turf conditions, and m a small field of eight. b Neither dreAV near the fence, Aussie being on No. 6 and Paganelli on No. 8. They were .really better there than near the inner, where the turf Avas anything but selid near, the fence. Oyer the initial half furlong Paganelli was the sloAver of the pair to get going. He met Avith ,the, ! ,worst of matters m the running until the actual test came Over the last furlong, where the battle threatened to be' strenuous, as both headed the others. However, there was no doubt about the superiority of Aussie when "Tinker" crouched down on the freak sprinter, and asked him for the real thing. ■ ' Aussie responded as he always has done when required. He. never flinched one little bit, Avith his 9.11 aboard^ and as he was giving'away 71bs. to his rivalthe question seems absolutely settled as to which .is the better six / furlong sprinter of the pair.
