late, and causing their mother some concern, Terris connected his fist with the end of the brother's chin. Terris, it was alleged by the police, was keen to fight when he . had struck the brother, Edward Henry Ernest Nelson, and was mentioning side wagers of £5 or £10, whichever Nelson preferred. Terris was drunk; and wanted also to involve the girl's father m the affray, but was interrupted by the timely arrival of the police. Terris, who is married, denied being the aggressor. Under cross-examina-tion, he admitted that drink had been procured for the girls at the Governor's Bay Hotel. When Terris made this admission, Lawyer Roy T'wyneham intimated that he would leave the case where it stood. Though Terris was apparently the winner of the bout with Nelson, there was no, winner's purse. On the contrary; he had to contribute £3 to the State for assaulting Nelson.
