Trotting Events Down South (By "The Toff.';) Included m the list of events at the Waikouaiti Racing Club's meeting on New Year's Day are two trotting events. THE New Year Trot will be run over 1 one mile and a-ha.lf. It is an open class, m which Roddy ought to run prominently. Prince Bingen has been handed out as something good, and Rose Queen and King L.v are useful sorts. Then there is Maclam Locanda. . She is overdue and is stated to be a reliable pacer. In a field of novices one never knows what will happen, but if speculators trust to Roddy and Madam Locanda they should not go' far wrong. In the Domain Trot, Madam Locanda may appreciate the mile more than the longer distance of the other race. King Lv is m the same boat, but Economy is a likely sort and may down them. Last year Tres Bon ran -third, which proves that he is at home under saddle. Unless Pando Polrttef bobs up. Economy and King* Lv should be handy when the straight is reached. Waikouaiti is a popular picnic meeting for people from Dunedin and the surrounding districts. As a day out m the open, the fixture cannot be surpassed, thereby retaining: its New Year populariity.
