From Miiford APPAEENTLY "the world's . finest rt walk" has been *well advertis*d, for the "Manuka" arriving from Australia at the Bluff on the 23rd of this month, will discharge a fair number of its passengers at Miiford. These enterprising souls will continue theii journey overland. By the way, 'the new Government Hostel at Miiford will be under the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Long, who for a good while were joint hosts, and very popular ones, at the Hermitage. The shining Sound waters wiU be, a bis change from ice-fields, glaciers and ski-fiends, .but the Mount Cook couple can be depended upon to play mine hopt — not to mention mine hostess — as capably as they have always done. Among The Larches: TF. the hum who really likes a <iui6t ana ' peaceable Qhristmas still exists, ..he should pack up his troubles), always excepting his seventeen small children, arid make for that little southern retreat, Hanmer Springs. All along the roads are kowhai trdgs. waving yellow blossoms flags m welcome. The little town lies m a hollow ofthe hills, and red hawks swoop over it m a fashion picturesque but disconcerting to local farmers. A fine forestry plantation, particularly notable on account of its walks bordered with slim young larches, is one-of the Hanmer Springs attractions. Good golf and tennis are two more, and the mineral springs very alluring to those who like a sparkling dip.
