Whether Hal Chimes Knew this or not is a matter for conjecture, but he bolted home and paid over a quarter of a century, much to the amazement of followers of form. He has a reputation as being unreliable and perhaps such may be the case, but it is in-and-out efforts like his that suggest that pacers of his calibre, from the punters' point of view, would be better left at home.
