THEY GET THEIR FUN
Time and Money Is No Object To Taumarunui
(Prom ''N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative). Though the general belief is that countiry racing clubs are up against it to carry on, it can be said of the Taumarunui sportsmen that they are not likely* to go under.
'THAT is, if enthusiasm, backed up 1 by their own financial support, can prevent tt. They are confident In their own ability to struggle on and provide the Inhabitants of the King Country area with at least one gala day a year. When necessary a few years ago guarantors were forthcoming to. back the club up;to the extent of £4000. ■ . . ; It says much for the King Country racing community to learn that, even through troublesome financial days, £1000: has already been wiped off the amount named. . For years, Taumarunui was dogged by bad* luck m the matter of weather,
but of late. there has- been sunshine on race days. That the efforts are being appreciated was shown last week-end, when the tote, register was- distinctly favorable, despite the fact that there was a counter attraction to contend against m the Waikato trots. However, Taumarunui Racing Club contend that they can carry on with district support only. ; ■ The club is after an extra day to help them to clear their liability to guarantors.. ' ; All things considered, it would seem Taurriarunui's claim ifc * worthy ,of some consideration when country permits are available.
