CHINESE CO- RESPONDENT

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) When William Charles Leoni married Dorothy Pearl m 1925, he had no idea that m three years' time his home and happiness would be broken up by a Chinese. But so it has proved. Leoni 'g troubleg were ventilated before the judge m Auckland when he asked for a divorce, citing 1 Wallie Chan as co-respondent. Married m August, 1925, Dorothy Pearl became a mother m the following October. About this time Chan was m the Mount Eden gaol, and wrote several letters to Mrs. Leoni which were intercepted by her husband. He taxed her, and she admitted that she frequently visited Chan at the gaol. » But Leoni, being 1 rather a forgiving type of man, overlooked her indiscretion, and the trouble between them was patched up. Everything went along nicely between them until April of this year, when Dorothy left home and went off to Christchurch with Chan, living with him as his wife. Leoni had not seen her since. As to the child, Leoni did not ask for custody as Chan was the father. • . Judge Blair remarked when making the decree nisi that the problem of the children always caused him some concern. If Mrs. Leoni 's child was m good hands it could remain with her. Costs' were fixed on the lowest scale against Chan.
