By Two Seconds Arnott Missed World's Record

By two seconds only did Jack Arnott fail to establish a threemile world's grass track record for 2%-h.p. machines. The attempt was made on the Deagon track recently, and fully two hundred people were present wheri he made the run. LIE was mounted on a Velocette. ' * After a preliminary warm up the machine sounded good enough to set new- figures, but the stormy wind was very much against s good time, as it blew straight m from the sea, and was against the rider fully one-third of the circuit. The existing record for the three miles is 2min. 29sec, and Arnott clocked 2.31. Arnott is shortly returning to New Zealand, and was anxious to establish at least one world's best time. Speedway doers will be sorry to lose Arnott, as he was just beginning to show champion form. W/HEN pouring oil into the ' engine " don't remove the gauze filter m the filler because you are m a hurry. A piece of dirt or fluff m the oil might cause very serious trouble.
