THE HOLIDAY PRELUDE

Woodville Will Allow Them A Pipe Opener

So far as the southern end of the North Island is concerned Woodville is the final meeting prior to the opening of the Christmas carnival.

RACING will take place there on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, and, as most owners will take the opportunity of giving their horses a final run, good-sized fields should be m evidence. With acceptances not closing till to-morrow, it is difficult to come to any .definite conclusion. The Auckland Cup favorite, Hoylake, will be seen out and he will carry money. What beats him should "win, the likely ones appearing to be Merry Damon and David Garrick. If Arrow Lad runs m the open sprint he will take a power of beating. Formidable opposition may come from Chelone and ' The Raider. Elysianor is now out of hacks and may be allowed to run m the Hurdles. He will have to go fairly well to beat Home Made and Bonhomme. Baskier and St. Melba may go well m the Trial Plate, for which there is sure to be a big field..

"Veronese has a lot of weight m the Flying, but she can handle it when m the humor, as shown at Otaki. Rameses is an unlikely runner and m hiß absence the difficult ones may be Locarno and King Quex. There is a field of fair to average two-year-olds m the Nursery Handicap. Equitant has the experience, and that counts a lot, while Desert Song also has been seen out. . Clever, one of Fred Davis' team, may be better now than she was earlier m the season. Huikai won at Otaki and that will bring support for him m the Borough Handicap. Rowley was giving a bit of oheek as they turned for home the first day at Feilding and he will soon be ready to win a race. The last race may be the poorest of the day. Ivalos has to win one sooner or later and here is hia opportunity. Pale Star ran badly at Otaki, but It was too bad to be true.
