A Man's Man
YTOU'VE heard of Mount Cook, no 1 doubt. It is a rather high hillock just outside Timaru and its chief j attraction is that, at its foot, we find the Hermitage, that estimable hostelry i so democratically and thoroughly run by a chap named Wigley. Wigley — if you know him for more than a day you may call him "Old Wig" — has mastered the gentle art ,of making a tourist resort a place for the multitude. By keen business methods, coupled with shrewd commonsense, he has succeeded m drawing 1 hundreds of' folk to Mount Cook, who, were it under anything but the Wigley regime, would undoubtedly stay away. "Wlgr" is a bit of a climber himself. .As a matter of fact, he tied with the hero of "Excelsior" for mountaineering honors, m "the middle of winter, he toddled up to the top of Mt. Cook, no mean feat. If ever you. go to Mt. Cook and a six-foot odd mortal seems to take you under his wing, be prepared to hear some excellent anecdotes. ]?or you have found Wigley.
