NOT ON ICE!

Just The Lack of Experience WEST IT WENT (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) When Stormy let supporters down m the hurdles at Te Kuiti, there was much weeping. HIS display hardly concurred with b.is brave effort m his only previous start over timber at Te Rapa and some were inclined,. on first thought, to dv& it as cash biffed away on "dead-meat." However, "N.Z. Truth" does not share that belief ami is m a position to assure all that Stormy was very freely supported by the right people. It is true, that his performances at Te Rapa and On opening day at Te Kuiti were m distinct contrast to each other, for at Teßapa he finished second with plenty of dash. The fact is, Stormy has not been long' at the jumping game, and needs experience before he can be classed as a perfect fencer. In among the bunch after going out of the straight last Saturday, he was making a forward move when he faltered rounding a curve. The fact that a horse of his pace was kept m on the fence and- likely to meet with interference instead of being taken on the outer, led quite a lot of onlookers astray as to Stormy's doings. /•')'' ■-"-.' The fact is that the hurdles at T3 Kuiti we.re hot' placed the full width of the track and the idea was. to prevent the possibility of a beginner at the game from running off. It is admitted that Stormy might have given more satisfaction on Saturday last with a more experienced horseman m the saddle. However, it is doubtful if 'he could have got into a dividend-filling place on 'that particular day with the best hurdle horseman m the land to aid him.
