MACHINES RATTLE
THE "Wellington Pioneer Club has been doing a bit of light labor lately m the shape of an exhibition and sale of - arts and crafts'. 'Like the Lyceum, the Pioneer has an energetic little art circle, all very deft with needles, ' chisels and so on, and the exhibition showed how very unfair is the accusation that clubs interfere with, the feminine side of a woman's • life. Every effort is made to dig ,up hidden talents — each member being expected to belong to' one 'or other of the "circles" — and the training displayed at the exhibition reflected very well both on teachers and grown-up pupils. The sale was a Christmas-present one, ■ small and dainty articles being mostly chosen and less . formal exhibition wo r k being shown than m other years. Miss Kane, the , energetic president of the club, says that all went well, and she is convinced that the annual sale and exhibition means pleasant Christmas stocking surprises for many folk.
