TWICE HE SHOWED THEM HOW

Native Prince Was Never Extended At Otahuhu Trots

(Prom "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland . Representative.) . It was left to Native Prince to show them the way home m the Jellicoe Handicap at Alexandra Park last Saturday.

TO dOj so he was not asked to give the time a shake, and even though they stepped on the gas over the concluding half-mile the watch said 4.32 1/5 for the full distance. Native Prince was never further back than third. Mate o 1 Mine and Billy Sea acted as pace-makers until four furlongs from the judge, where /Loch Moigh, Gold Jacket and Jackie Audubon closed up and the leaders commenced to tire. It was nearing the head of the straight that J. Shaw said "home," and, giving the ex-Australian his head, home he rolled. Though the judge's decision was a long neck, it is probable that Native Prince could ,have d-efeated Gold Jacket by a much more comfortable margin. Gold Jacket had every chance, but was probably short of a run. With I the racing he should strip fit and well for the Auckland Cup. Jackie. Audubon. bracketed with the winner, was close up third after standing the leaders a start throughout and having to come wide at the home turn. He was ticked off there and then as a winner before very long. The big disappointment was Mate o' Mine, which, on Addington form, should not have been beaten so easily. He compounded badly towards

the finish and was m fifth berth at the close vigorously driven by M. B. Edwards. The Shrew, Billy Sea, Jewel Pointer and Loch Moigh had every show,, but fuiled on the clay. When Native Prince was purchased it was for a good price, but the money was well spent, for m the interim he had w0n. £1165 up. to and including the first day of ihe Otahuhu meeting. There was another easy stake for him later m the. day — the ten-furlong Massey Memorial. Now you might think Musical is, but she is not. * . * v Hinkler will not disgrace his cobber, Bert. ' , * « * Lightfoot is not of the tanglefoot variety. His good form at Motukarara made that quite plain. * * * If Nancy Bingen gets beaten at Wellington on Saturday there will be no toys for the children at Christmas. * * ■ # If Tot Logan could only speak! She might say something about Wellington. * * * Unless Richore has mended his ways he will keep the punters poor.
