Rough Stuff Which Fizzled Out
THAT alleged son of belted earls, yclept Robert William 1 Gunter did not allow his annoyance with ' 'N.Z. Truth, "for exposing his little schemes to smoulder m his more or less manly bosom, nor was he content with expressing m hotel bars his hatred of this champion of uprightness- • He was foolish enough to try to beard the lion m his den. . .. A very irate gentleman ascended "N.Z, Truth" staircase a few days ago, flung open the door of the editorial office, and announced, ' ' You know me!" - On being informed that the editor if he did know the visitor, had forgotten— and some things are far, far better forgotten—Gunter proceeded to doff his coat, roll up his shirt sleeves and generally give a passable imitation of the. screen "tigers" who spend practically all their time throwing other people's furniture about. "My name's Gunter," he declared, "and I'm going to do m fourteen days or forty shillings for you." But noticing, on second glaiice, that the editor of this family journal does the handsome thing m, the way of brawn and muscle, Gunter allowed himself to be buttoned up again, motioned to a chair, and generally soothed. Like March, Gunter, who is a stage lion at worst, "went out like. a lamb-" , Perhaps, m some less wise and wicked city, m England or America, he will find that congenial— and profitable—society for which his comradely spirit yearns.
