CHANCE FOR EVERYONE
But Mipor Events At The Park Appear Very Open (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) In a couple of the minor events at the Otahuhu meeting at Alexandra Paris on Saturday there appear to be cold-stone certainties. ■ . . : ;
• ' ' " ' • ' !' IN the remaining others you could look for a week and still fail to see one on which a roll could be punted with confidence. Kicking off with the Introductory Trot, investors are faced with a poser, for they are really a country crowd, not one of which is capable of seeing out twelve furlongs without doing the light fantastic. Mokanna looks the best of a brummy lot, and Lady Stepney and Billy Carbine a couple of others with any • speed at all. A field of twenty- three m the Mangere Handicap will make it anything but easy for the favorite division to get a clear run if they fail to strike the jump-off. Trustworthy, St. Bridget and Travis Axworthy are likely to carry the cash, for they look the goods. If they are stopped on the trip, Halgana, Medusa and Warplane may upset the pot. With only six due to chase the £350 m the Onehunga, and Laplander and Free Advice ready to do battle, they will want nothing else but these two southerners. Both of them can't win, so Free Advice mai' be sorted out to work the oracle. For the Stewards' mile and a-half they will rush Firelight, one from the south, which on Addington for"m has something like six seconds to come and go on. He will need them if Great Peter is at his best, and he should be. Evelyn Locanda and Daytime, as
well as Derby-Lynn, will be at them at one stage or another, but the duel will no doubt be between the first-mentioned pair, and "N.Z. Truth" is of the opinion that ■ there will be little between them at the deciding line. If anything looks home on the whisker it is Pvaima m the Campbell Han L dicap. He has only to do his work right to collect. Ngatira, Mutu and Tiger Salve should chase Great Change for the minor cash. Events with the weight on top are popular, for they, offer a change from the every-rday mode of racing with the hopples on. Twenty-two of them are likely to let it rip m the Manukau Handicap, and anything is likely to bob up and do^ m the remainder. It is one of the best moderate fields that could be got together under the conditions and one of the hardest to fathom. The bracket, Daytime and Joy Bird, must be considered, while Goldman and Hal Chimes have a show, too. If Firelight goes to the post it should be "Good night, nurse," that is, provided the h^ndicapper doesn't rehandicap him to such an extent for a previous win as- to give, it- to him where the chicken got the axe. Tony .Victor and Laplander will be inquired after and Luvan will also be wanted. In the event t»f Firelight coming back further m the handicaps, McMillan's bracket, Tony Victor and Luvan, may be looked to to do the trick m the final event, the "recovery stakes." ,
