PRICELESS!

Varsity Examination Dust Up _ " The New Zealand University authorities m Wellington surely put the acid test m concentration on students when they selected the big, draughty Winter Show buildings as. the spot for the annual * examinations. YOUTHFUL endeavor likes to. have •*• its brain storm m dignified silence and reasonable comfort, and not amidst the barrage of a high southerly ■ gale. . ■ . .•"-■..■■■ >'■' "i'liere is reason for the complaints made by the students, for, on txie iiuy the 'examinations were held, Wellington was m the grip of one of the .worst southerlies experienced for years. # Miserable with the; cold, distracted by the' roar of the wind and the seeming general confusion within the building, and a leaking roof spattering examination papers, small wonder is it that' the students' hopes of success were considerably diminished. . In selecting the Winter -Show buildings, the University authorities overlooked the fact that, no matter how desirable the place may or may not be as an examination hall for summer use, it is certainly not ideal at this climatically uncertain period of the year. More consideration should have been shown students, especially at a time when such high hopes and expectations centred on the result of their work. If the building formerly used f,or the examinations was unsuitable for the purpose— and "N.Z. Truth" has not had any statements advanced why it was— m securing other quarters, the responsible people should at least have made some provision for the comfort of students 1 m such an eventuality as did arise. following upon" this incident comes the news from Auckland and Christchurch that students entering.; upon examination were handed wrong examination papers. This has caused a serious break m the. orderly routine of University examinations. . The trouble, that . arose out of the distribution of incorrect papers lies m the fact that- they were wrongly labelled, '■ but who -is: to blame is not known— at least up to the present." . Wellington students will receive their "B" papers according to schedule, but the other centres are to be advised of a decision reached by a special Recess Committee of the New Zealand University convened m Wellington for the purpose of, looking into the matter. What transpired at the meeting, Registrar of the University E. T. Norris does not say. Perhaps he feels the matter has already' received enough publicity.
