Old Friend Sam
BEWARE the ides of November! Some do, some should, and some don't. If A. M. Samuel, M.P., does not belong to the last-named category then he is putting up a signally successful bluff; or, rather shall.it be said that if he is afflicted . with the breeze which ascends — as distinct from the lilting variety that wafted somebody's girl away — then he disguises it with admirable nonchalance.
Now Samuel suffered rather a raw deal from the boundary commissioners for they wiped out the once arid-in-spot's constituency ' i of phinemuri m which he scored a. comfortable win from Hugh Poland three years ago. There were, however, compensations. The most populous parts of Ohinemuri were tacked on to Thames m which electorate Toby Rhodes, M.P., obligingly decided to throw, m the towel. A.M.S. has something of a way with him. He. is •an adroit platform man and hath a nimble wit. He skirts dexterously round the traps and pitfalls that so often snare the unwary. He has followed so. many diverse callings m his variegated career and stored up such a miscellany of experience that he's about as easy for a heckler, to handle as a full-grown hedge-hog.
