II E has had a passion for electrical research and experiment all his life. ■ Mt became an 'obsession— and a dangerous one— for it , ; led Edward Kenneth. Currie into serious crime to. further his experiments. , .Sixteen years ago he stole a quantity of. electrical equipment at Hamilton, and, on his return from the war, his passion for research' interfered with, his work as \a> -railway porter; as a. result of the conflict with^ his superiors,: he left the service. ■ ■ ■'.y Every effort was made by his i-elatives toi curb his obsession, but ' without avail— it pursued him day "and night. In order, to 'satisfy his requirements and; study, he resorted to breaking and entering. ■ • ■ Electrical equipment fascinated ;iim . . .: and it was this fasi cination which led him into .crime. The result was his appearance before Judge Blair, at Auckland last week for sentence on five charges of breaking and entering and theft. ■' '. ' Remarking that he did not think Currie was a criminal m the ordinary sense of the word, the judge extended leniency and placed him on probation for throe years, Currie was also ordered to pay cost 3.
