Joe Joins In
TO handle a whole flock of queens single-handed is the enviable job
of young Jos Knowsley. producer of the Dream of Fair Women Pageant with which the eyes of Wellington are to be dazzled during carnival days.
At least six — arid probably seven — queens are to be selected from, the youth, beauty and pep of Wellington. Three have already emerged—Atalanta, m the brisk person of Sybil Swinburne; Cleopatra, who is to be stately Tiora Meadows; and the Queen of Sheba, dark- eyed Alison Kirkcaldie. People say that men can't design costumes. Joe says: "Watch out." He is m charge of the royal wardrobes and his gowns — which will be remark* able even more for their quality than for the quantity, of material used — arc calculated to sti-ike Wellington a sharp blow m the eye. There is a robe of sheer gold for Cleopatra and one of peacock feathers for the Queen of Sheba. ■
Settings are to be exceptionally beautiful. The old Town. Hall- wont know itself when it is transformed intp ,a Palace of Beauty, with hanging gar-, dens,, water-lily ponds and lowered lights well to the fore: Most of this scheme will be the work of the clever young dancer, who has made a: silverheeled way m New Zealand during the last few years. .
