Upward, Ambrose

THERE is a snappy poem about a 1 gent who climbed up a mountain-

side bearing, amid the ice, a banner with this strange device, "Excelsior!" A maiden, who should have known better, asked him 1 to stay' and rest his weary head upon her breast;' but the young man murmured "Excelsior" and got on with the business m hand. A keen mountaineer. Just like Fred Ambrose. „ . .

Fred is one of those people whose greatest pleasure m life is to emulate the timorous chamois and skip from peak to peak along the mountains. He is a great walker and climber and combines these with a real mastery of photography. His pictures of mountains are glorious.

His most prized possession is his 3elgian alpenstock, a beautiful piece of work that has helped him over many a dizzy height.

A good fellow and one that any man would choose as a companion m the great silent spaces.
