NON-OILING

New Sparking-plug A special type of sparking-plug has been designed to overcome ignition troubles due to oiling up usually met with when the piston rings begin to wear. THE plug is of the ordinary shape, A *but -the central electrode is cut at an angle o£ 45 degrees. The other contact is of the double loop design, also running downwards at an angle parallel 'with the face of the central arc. Any oil that is thrown up on the points is drawn by surface tension from the bottom of the electrode to the loop, where it is' rapidly burnt away by the heat of the explosion. The loop is made of wire of such a thickness that it maintains a fairly high temperature, but not high enough to cause pre-ignition. Trials of the new plug have proved very satisfactory.
