Union Rowers Show Their Worth

After giving the Victoria oarsmen a lesson m the art of rowing, the Union Boat Club (Wanganui) crew, champions of New Zealand and winners of the Stewards' Challenge Cup at Henley-on-Yarra last Saturday, are on their way home. THE crew left Melbourne on Monda: and they are- due to take the shij from Sydney on Friday. Enthusiasts m New South Wales ar< disappointed at not being able to sei the New Zealanders m action, but th< trouble is that the next regatta at Syd ney is three weeks' distant and no rac could be arranged m the meantime. However, some wonderful racing is anticipated should the Dominion accep the challenge of the New South. In spite of the handicap of having •ton-ow m a strange boat loaned by the Melbourne Rowing Club, they were so isupei-ior : to all the
other . competitors (that neither m the lieats nor m the ifinal did the' visitors really have to row hard.
. ■' Against the head wind tiiat prevailed on Saturday they were seen at their best, and the manne'in which they, .with' their great length, wonderful catch and tremendous leg drive, picked up their boat and fairly lifted it over the water was something to make the heart of every critic rejoice.
In the first heat "Wanganui had a comfortable win. from Albert Park by five lengths. In the final, meeting- a rough but willing -crew from Rugherglen, near the borders of Victoria and New South Wales, they took the" lead early and gradually increased it throughout, again winning by five lengths m .5.48, a second faster than the time of their first heat.
