BOWLERS' DAY
Batsmen Hard Put To Score
(.From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.)
Wellington cricket was not re-
sponsible for anything very sensational m the opening ' series of games. The defeat of Institute
was a mild surprise, however. CO far as the' game went Institute had all the worst of it — in\ fact, every team which had to bat last Saturday had a bad run. .
Two hundred did not look a formidable score to overtake, but when batsmen had to contend with length bowling on a difficult wicket, well, what could one expect?
In addition; the reserves employees of the City Council apparently suffered from "sleepus lbngus" after Friday's, rain because. the turf, on the outfield at. .the. l3asin. was half a yard long. When Dempster cover drives, the
ball zipps to the boundary like lightning. On, Saturday the crack's shots stopped- halfway. Under the circumstances his 41 . was a fine efforts '
A bad slump m the middle of the inning's set institute back and though Crooke, who ' played very •■■-•well, and Rodgrers' tried to make the outstanding runs, luck : was against them.
