A GREAT CREW
Glass Rowers From Wanganui (By Cable.— From "N.Z. Truth's" Melbourne Rep.) . Although they have been unfortunate m striking unpleasant weather, the Wanganui Union Boating Club's senior four, which will represent the Dominion m the Stewards' Challenge Cup on Saturday, has impressed critics.. MOBODY Avill hear of them being ' beaten m their race at Henley-on-Yarra on Saturday. < They are by far the heaviest crew m the race and the opposition will be weaker than it has - be6n for many years.. Apart from ..this, however, the New Zealanders undoubtedly are a crew of class, and the pity is -that at the moment there does not appear to be a Victorian crew with any hope of extending them. On Friday the crew went for a long paddle m a boat lent by the Melbourne Rowing Club, and even under the adverse conditions of a strange boat arid oars their work was strikingly good. After ah early row on Sunday morning,; they motored, to.Ballarat and renewed acquaintance with the Wendouree Ciub,^ whose -senior -four they raced against on, several occasions m New Zeaiahd;'a> couple of years ago. Yesterday their ; p.wn boat arrived from, Sydney, and it was. possible to gee them at' their best, ■ ; No other four-oar crew on the river has. either the length or steadiness of recovery "of ■ the visitors'; who; though they row at a somewhat', slower rate than the Victorians, make the best use pf every ounce, of . their weight and get, their' boat moving' at' a tremendous pace. ■■• ■"" ■•'•' • i '•■'•■ ■■'.'
