False Prophets

-♦ — JT is regrettable that, pseiido-re- ' ligionists, \ spurious faith-heal-ers and the ' many , off-sh o 6'ts -61: similar infamous pro cesses '-may not readily be put -but' of-, harm's;' way. ■■' ■"■ '■ • '■-■' ;:v : This appears. -.to. be the "synthetic period, when civilization and the civilized pay heed to just-as-good pronouncements — synthetic everything, imitations of all 'kinds, Brummagem ministers, spurious healers and manipulators of any ' ' spiritual tenet which displays reasonable promise of monetary advantage. There is too much trap-drum-ming, an unpalatable excess 01 noise and loud advertisement on the part of evangelists who have religion and salvation to sell; charlatans, who, their ears attuned to the clinking of metal m the collection-boxes, dispense psalms with their lips and deceit from their hearts. It is without the purview of tolerant journalism to question the religious beliefs of any man, but when teachers of any particular creed are to be gauged only on what financial benefits accrue to their "religious" endeavors, it is then time for outspoken comment. Jeffreys tells his story very well— so- do all evangelists who go on world-wide .tours for the benefit of their health— and before any sadly afflicted people pay any heed to his pronouncements, it would be well for them to read what this— and one other — paper has to say about him on another page of this issue.
