LIGHT PISTONS
Fastidious Owners In the effort to make their cars faster, . owners not uncommonly resort to having aluminium pistons' fitted m place of the castiron WHEN this is done it' must be borne m mind that the running^in pro-cess-should be continued- for at least a' thousand miles before full> use , is made of. the ' engine m the way- of speed and fast hill-climbing. v For some reason aluminium, pistons do not take kindly to cylinders m which cast-iron pistons have previously been used, and unless they 7are taken carefully for some time a seizure is always on the cards, even .though the "' -engine may be almost swamped witn- oil. 7. . .If is a very Wod7practice when • the alteration has been made to 7 use' a tablespoonful of lubricating , oii to "'the' gallon of petrol for a few /hundred mil.es, say up .to about five hundred or more. By this - means lubrication of the upper part of the cylinders is assured and the possibility of . seizure is considera.bly lessened. .
