TO WRACKLER
Nicoll's Baby Wins Derby
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) The Great Northern Trotting Derby was a race of spasmodically ; brilliant bursts of speed on the part of many of the contestants. THE dash' made by Wrackler, the *■ winner, when freed from a bad position, was not only the most impressive,/ but also the one which brought forth admiration from the main army of punters who made Wrackler and his bracketed, companion very warm favorites on the machine. . Security displayed surprising dash out m. front for the most part, but failed to hang- on m the run home and drifted back to fifth. There were six visitors among the nine contestants for the classic. It certainly says much for the three northern candidates m the field that two of them proved good enough to earn the minor money. Rolfe Audubon^s second, only a neck away from Wrackler, was full of promise for the future, while Trustworthy's third came after a compulsory ease up owing to a mishap about a fortnight before the race. Still, there was mgrit m Wrackler's victory. ■"
