AND THE BAND
Maiden Faces Music Early
Trainers of light harness candidates adopt various 'methods of educating their young . charges* either trotters or pacers.. TPIE variety is noticed particularly where maidens which have not sported "silk are concei'ned. In some instances the aspirants to either gait wake up to the business quite early m their career. . One trainer at Auckland believes m doing it oil the ground, and adopts methods of education quite the reverse of the orthodox system. He was recently witnessed chasing his square-gaiter around the stall and at the same time serenading on, a saxophone. The trotter is due to compete at a country meeting and the trainer with the ''sax" reckoned that he : had to get his charge used to the band. To some the .idea may be all right, but • others will incline to the belief that some other instrument of torture may toe more appropriate. ■ A^t any rate it* is pleasing to know that the saxophone has other uses apart from the ballroom.
