A HEAVY TASK
What Will Win The Sprints?' (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Some of those nominated for the sprint events* at the meeting at Epsom this month have decent credentials. THE mile sprint the first day is likely . , to plrove a tangle, for on paper one could sort out half the field as likely to be m at the death, and still be aware that the winner could easily come from the remainder. Such is a proposition that enthusiasts iwill undoubtedly be faced with when, they come to sort them out m the October Handicap, and though seyerjal of those engaged, will raoe earlier in' the day over two miles, • will that form -make it any easier to solve the problem of the eight-furlong flutter? Ejeeing that The Shrew, which, by the way, is not appropriately named, is not engaged m the big event, there will be many inclined to nominate her as the most likely to work the oracle. . Trained at Hastings by that astute mentor, W. Head, a great deal is not known about her condition, but if she tackles the 2.14 mile, that should be •sufficient encouragement to warrant suggesting that, she is somewhere at her best. Chief Opposition m the. mile event will come from the ■• speedy Western King, now as fit as hands can make him.
