FIRST OUTING
Reasonable To See Her Fail
(Prom "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Miss New Zealand impressed, everybody by her easy victory m a mile race at Ellerslie m June. ON Saturday there was heavy support for her when she stepped out for the first time m open company at Avondale on Saturday. . This, despite the fact that she had never been noticed indulging m training work on a recognized track, and was without a race since June. • : . She was certainly carrying little superfluous flesh, and it was openly stated by her party she was ready to •win. ->'.■' Their confidence was remarkable, but it was, nevertheless, there, though just how the confidence came about Was a bit puzzling. So far as can be gleaned the daughter of Nassau was being got ready on a miniature private track at Papatoetoe, which could hardly have suited the case. Her failure, to get into the money appeared to be more puzzling to her connections than anyone else, but there was nothing remarkable about Jt when the facts are seriously considered. Maybe the knock her youthful horseman received as the mare shot her head up m the paddock, prior to the start, did not. help matters for her. It was a hard, smack that young Brady received. \ Miss New Zealand was nowhere near the' place-money at the finish, but can; be expected to do better with a bit of racing. Her Ellerslie form was too pooi to, be passed by for one failure.
