REPLACE HIM
Peter To Pull String No More We are living m an age when starters are few and far between, and now one of the best known is to retire. COME years back there was a call for a man to do most of the clubs m Canterbury and there was selected one Peter McNab. Peter was officer m charge of operations at Riccarton course. In other words he was the caretaker. He was persuaded m to having a go at starting and he made good, too. Now and again fault could be found with him, but on the big. majority of occasions he was great. And the time cxame to pass when he had under his control all the starting of the district. But somehow or the other the work never appealed to Peter. He carried on, giving satisfaction to everybody but himself. Now he has announced his retirement — he wants to devote all his time to looking after his real job. It is going to be difficult to replace McNab, and just who will get the job is hard to say. Perhaps the Canterbury Jockey Club may look further afiel.d, for a successor. "Whoever be the successful man he will find that Peter McNab has set him a "main", to throw.
