NO, THEY DON'T WANT YOUR MONEY!
CTATE institutions and enterprises suffer from a, superabundance of " red tape. Hide-bound officialdom cannot see — or think — beyond the limits of its own short vision. One of the departments which restricts its own progress is the Post Office Savings Bank. It Is generally an easy matter to get rid of money, but not so m the oase of the P. 0.5.8. Quite recently, two members of the staff of this paper called at one of the local Savings Bank branches to open an account on behalf of "N.Z. Truth's" oricket club. Quite a respectable little sum was tendered, with the information that it was their wish to open an account, but the official behind the counter promptly informed "Truth's"' representatives that such a huge undertaking couldn't be carried out so easily. A form had to be filled m, of course. That would have been all right had the formalities ceased there and then. But, no; the application form must supply detailed information, and, annexed thereto, a copy of the rules and minutes of the meetings of the oricket club, the whole to be forwarded to the Postmaster- General for perusal — and sanotlon — before the acpount oould be opened. As time counts for something with members «f "Truth's" staff, a visit was paid to a private banking institution, where courtesy and Alacrity went hand-ln-hand. The desired business. was qulokly transacted:' ■■-,■' " \ ;■■ '. . MorV« the pity that the lame excellent service cannot be applied tq ©up 8t»to P.0,8,&,L
