BEGINS NICELY

Winner of The Scurry Last Week (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) When there is any maiden scurry events m the early spring it is usually good business to look for three-year-olds to provide the winner. "THIS reasoning again came off m the Opunake Scurry at New Plymouth on Saturday last, when „all the placefillers were of that age. Lady Quex, the winner, though . drawn on the extreme outer at the barrier, won. She hopped into her stride early and once she got the best of Llanore m the middle stages she never gave her supporters any great anxiety — though she had to be shaken up to keep off Calapat nearing the post. Calapat and Llanore both threw out signals that they ai-e likely propositions for hack events ahead. The outside position she drew at the barrier had much to do with the reasonable price returned by Lady Quex . She has lost none of her beginning powers during the winter months, and this qualification should stand to her prospects m coming sprint events. From now on she will be looked for m haok events when the opposition is not too strong.
