This Sale had an exceptional feature m Wellington, as it marked the grand opening of SCHNEIDEMANS' NEW MAIN 'SHOP at SCHNEIDEMANS' CQRNER opposite "Evening Post," .Willis Street, and Mercer Street. When the opening date was announced for last Monday with a Sale of Suits at prices from One and Sixpence upwards, many Wellington men made a note of the date and then set out twenty- four hours earlier to toe there on time. By 10 o'clock oh j Sunday morning would-be buyers were 'beginning to gather on "the ; corner." 'All through the afternoon they came •m ones and twos and threes, Young 'anen. middle-aged men, short men, tall
men, and men of all figures, were m the queue — each one knowing that Schneidemans' guarantee to fit all figures from their, range of 66 sizes. By nightfall the crowd was much increased, and by the morning it had spread all round the shop and across Mercer Street, and the first-comers were being tightly pressed by the weight and numbers of the. multitude behind. Several people fainted, and ln two ■ cases the City Ambulance was called. One or two withdrew from the crush, .but the majority waited cheerfully enough. They knew their onions, or rather their suits (indeed, many of them had their Tfancy chosen from among the many attractive models in' the window), and once inside the shop all would be well. What if the wait were long and weary?- Not every day "were first-class suits offered at such extraordinary prices. WHEN THE DOORS OPENED By 8.80 o'clook m the morning the excitement was intense. Behind the barred doors Schneidemans' staff
worked feverishly to have all m readiness for the rush they knew was coming. Shortly after 9 the signal was given; the door was unlocked, and with great cheering from the crowd and sighs of thankfulness from the lucky individuals themselves, the first three men were admitted. SCHNEIDEMANS' great Sale had begun! Looking 'worn and weary after their long vigil, but fully alive to the bargains before them Messrs. Fred Warren, 85 Cambridge Terrace; — Barley, 9 Newtown Avenue; and A. Joll, of Seatoun, were taken straight to the display window to choose tho suit they liked the best. All made half-crown purchases and departed well satisfied. Considering the quality of the goods, they could hardly have felt otherwise. As soon as the shop was clear the next m the. queue were drafted m. Nearly all showed the strain of their long watch, but once inside they quickly recovered and went about their business of buying with decided interest. The first one-and-sixp'enny suit went
to Mr. Thomas, 102 Russell Terrace, the next to R. Wheelan, 22 Hanson Street, who had waited since 2.80 on Sunday for his opportunity and the third one to Mrs. Fraser, 207a Cuba Street. ALTERATIONS FOR NOTHING. Many * of the customers bought higher-priced suits at 29/6 and. 39/6, but m every case they were waited on with courtesy and consideration by the staff, and were permitted to try .on the garments if desired, being informed that any alterations necessary would be carried out free of charge. This was an exceptional service which delighted many purchasers, but m mo3t cases the fit was so remarkably good that there was no likelihood of suits being brought back to be altered.
