REVIVING LEATHER 1 A GOOD leather reviver is made with one part of vinegar to two parts of boiled linseed. Bottle and shake till like a cream. Apply with soft rag und polish. ** ' * ALD newspapers give out a good heat ancl help to economize with coal. They should be rolled up very tightly m bundles and bound at the ends wi£h wire. MELTONIAN CREAM TAKE loz. beeswax, loz. white wax, 1 %oz. Castile soap, % pint turpentine and y 2 pint water. Cut all ingredients into very fine shavings. Place them m a jar and pour over them the turpentine. Cover and allow to stand for 24 hours; then add % pint boiling water. Stir one way till cold and keep m bottles tightly corked. * * # rjREASE spots can be effectively removed from carpets by the use of ammonia. Put one tablespoon of ammonia into a pint of warm water, add two tablespoons of ox-gall and sponge the marks very carefully.. Rinse off with pure alcohol. Wipe as dry as possible with a piece of woollen cloth. * * * PRUNE CREAM TAKE 11b. prunes, 1 pint milk, V z pint cream, %oz. gelatine, some sugar and flavoring. Pour boiling water over the prunes and let them stand for a few minutes, when the stones may be removed. Steam them gently m a little strong syrup. Wet a plain mould and line with prunes. Now dissolve the gelatine m the milk, sweeten and when nearly cold, but not stiff, add the whipped cream and pour carefully into the lined mould. Allow to set. ## # . |F meat has to be kept a day or two before being cooked, a little charcoal sprinkled over, the joint will keep it fresh. # # # DARLEY should be blanched before being used m puddings or .meat dishes, as this takes away the bitter flavor. # # * pHLORIDE of lime and water made into a stiff paste will remove ink stains from silverware; but do' not use this paste on plated goods. « * * TO.PRESERVE PEEL MAKE a, thick syrup with water and "*■ white sugar, drop m fresh orange and lemon rinds, which have been wiped clean with a damp cloth, boil until tender, drain off all the syrup and store m small stoppered glass-jars. # * * IF a little butter is rubbed, round the spout of a teapot it will prevent the tea from trickling down when poured out. * * # A QUICK way of cleaning knives is ** to rub them with a slice of raw potato. The potato juice takes away almost any stain on metal. COUGH MIXTURE BY THE PINT Excellent Remedy Easily Made At Home The following recipe, by a qualified chemist, means an enormous saving m thc cost of cough and cold medicine. Mix 4 tablespoonsfiil sugar, 3 of treacle, 2 of vinegar, and a large breakfastcupful of water. Stir till dissolved, and put into a clean pint bottle. Add one bottle of "Heenzo" (Hean's Essence) and shake well. You thus get the equivalent of seven or eight ordinary bottles of cough remedy for the price of one. Not only a wonderful saving, but the result is a pint of the finest family cough and cold remedy money can buy. Splendid for all kinds of colds and coughs, croup, whooping-cough, bronchitis, influenza, and all throat and lung troubles. Obtainable at all chemists and stores. 2/6 a bottle. Be sure you get "Heenzo." No other will do.*
