GENUINE BID
English Efforts The English manufacturer seems to have entirely shaken, off the lethargy which m past years apparently afflicted him as far 'as wooing the colonial market was # concerned. THE New Zealand market is. now ■*■ occupying a very large place m the thoughts of many prominent British makers, and strenuous efforts are being directed towards . producing cars that are suitable m every way for the conditions met with here. Some idea of the lengths to which at least one manufacturer is going was demonstrated ,i n remarkable fashion last week, when a 20 h.p. car was put through a test of extraordinary rigor. The test was witnessed by the Secretary of State for the Dominions, L. C. Amer'y, who was m New Zealand a few months ago. During the test the car was driven through rough ploughed land and • over rocky 'out-crops to the edge of a steep declivity. The driver then left the machine and allowed the ' car to topple over. It somersaulted twice, and landed on its wheels, after breaking the windscreen, wrecking the footboards, and damaging the mudguards. Otherwise the car was unscathed, and . was immediately restarted and driven off. .
