DESERVE LUCK

And Red Lion May Bring It (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) The Gleeson brothers are ever willing to give their coin a reason- ' able spin at the racing game. AS owners they Have not mot with any phenomenal success, though Ring the Bell and Tea Bell were a pair which paid their way. They ventured into four figures when they purchased Red Lion as. a yearling at Trentham m 1927. As a two-year-old last season he failed to make good. Certainly it was realized from the onset that time was required m the case of Red Lion, and it may be that he will develop into something useful. In his juvenile engagements last season Red Lion displayed sufficient pace to give out encouragement, and Trainer "Skipper" Ryan elected to adopt patient tactics. He has wintered satisfactorily and sprinted reasonably well when tested at Ellerslie last week-end. So far there is no occasion to declare him anything out of the ordinary, but he certainly gives out hope that he will play his part well. It is doubtful if he will line up for the Avondale Guineas next month. Some hack races may be preferred to test him m during the spring. , He is one of that breed which do not reach their best until later.
