FAIRHALL FIT— MASON FAT
(By Cable. — From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.) THE English lightweight champion, Harry Mason, failed to show sensational form here on Saturday night. He was beaten every round by Tom Fairhall. Fairhall walked out and knocked Mason flat m the first round. He then proceeded to lambast him with everything. Mason, at 10.7, was fat and unfit. An injured ankle had prevented him training, and the result was he had not the slightest hope. He simply staggered through the bout, missing what he could, and taking punches from all angles. _ . . » Now and then he showed class, but he could not sustain it. As the fight progressed, Fairhall went further to the front. He forced all the time and just before the final bell he rapped home a right-hander to the head which deposited Mason on the mat. The Englishman was m a bad way, but the bell sounded and Fairhall was declared a points winner. Fairhall, 9.11!4» fought finely throughout.
