Cherry King
HE was tied to an accountant's chair —and he dreamed of cherries. The more he thought of •. cherries, the more he wanted -to grow them— until at length the initiative of Walter A. I'ate awoke. Now he is the cherry king. of. New Zealand and walks through boulevards of blossom on his' domain at Greytown. Walter Tate is a busy man. He is deputy • mayor of Grey town, chairman of the Wairarapa sub-branch of the Wellington Acclimatisatidn Society and a member of the parent body, also a member of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. He saw the demand for small fruits m the larger centres, and, taking up land at Greytown, went m for cherrygrowing. . His operations increased m size and he became the largest cherry grower m New Zealand. Recently he visited South America to study the markets there.-: • A man who looks ahead and- uses method, W.A.T. still has a superabundance of energy. : • He speaks fearlessly, even if he sometimes tackles a subject before he has amassed -sufficient evidence to support' him m the attitude he adopts. He looks at "things critically and is independent. *
