FROM THE SOUTH
(By "The Toff") THE most improved trotter seen out so far this season is Maxegin. He is a true trotter, a brilliant beginner, and gives every promise of staying two miles. # * # Katute is not improving one bit. # # * Louisiana broke nine times on the second day at Addington and then ran second. Had she only broken seven times she might have won. She has loads of speed, and is certain to salute the 1 judge m the near future. # # # ' Young Carbine can break. Age has not made him solid. # * # Nelson Boy still finds a mile and ahalf too far for him. Some nice warm day he might see out twelve furlongs. # # # Lady Fan is funny. Some days she will, and lots of days she won't. # tt * Great Change began all fight on the second day at Addington, hut he left hia feet before going half a furlongy and his army of followers could not cash their dockets. A. J. Corrigan is said to hold a secret key to the gelding. So when he drives him, be on. # mm Mangoutu has not forgotten how to trot m mud, and she is at home 'when the going is firm. She promises to come back. # * * They have found Kerrwood Belle out. She will have to improve to win another stake. # * * How things have changed. At one time Happy Rosa was all the^ rage with backers. On the second day at Addington only £8 was invested on her. # * /* Tamerlane was well backed on the second day at Addington and went for his life, but fourth was the nearest he could get to the money. Had he not made a break he would have paid a dividend. # # * What a beauty King Pointer is! There is big money waiting for him this season. # • * Loch Moigh was unlucky m the mile saddle event on the second day. He got it m the neck at the start and again just when he was making his run two furlongs from home. Andthen he finished fourth. # # * Hue Coronado now races m the interests of L. A. Maidens, who may cheer the gelding up enough to pick up a mile race with him. # # * Okoura goes like a steam engine for half a-mile, and then stops as if someone had blown the whistle. # * * Nantwich is good over a mile m saddle, but she is not at home m. heavy * oing V * # * Bankhead will win a two-mile raoe the first time he hits a dry course. . Carbine Direct is too sandpapery m his habits to toother about. He can, but won't. #.#■.■# Mate-o!-Mine was labelled at Aldington, but after going a stinging good race he had to bow his head to Harvest Child and Kingcraft. # # * Genuine had every chance m the mile and a-quarter on the second day at Addington, but Hector's Own showed him a clean pair of heels all the way. # * ■ # Talent received a fright at the end of the Federal Handicap. He was going comfortably m front when Wharepiana made a hot run on the-inside and was only a head behind Talent when the post was passed. # * * Brentloc displayed his usual brilliancy m the first part of the mile saddle race on Monday, but after being kept close to the leaders to the bend for home he tired badly m the straight. # * * Mate o' Mine went another real race on the second day at Addington when he beat all but Kingoraft. Ho evidently . h«« come
