HER GRAVE WILL NOT BE VIOLATED

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) "M 2. TRUTH" readers will remember that this paper, m its issue of July 19, published an account of what it considered a callous and ghoulish demand made upon the relatives of the late Ernestina Mary Norgrove, the unfortunate victim of the New Lynn mur,d.erer, * Alan George Norgrove, that her body be removed from the grave m which it rests beside her husband, Clarence Norgrove, within three days of receipt of the astounding ultimatum. The call sent out by this paper at the time was: "Hands off this woman's grave!" "Truth" has now received a letter from David Norgrove, jnr., from whom the ultimatum was stated to have been received by Buchanan, the late Mrs. Norgrove's brother-in-law, and takes pleasure m making this .document public. - David Norgrove writes: "Truth", Newspaper, 11 Commerce Street, Auckland. Dear Sirs, — Enclosed is a copy of a letter I have to-day' (August 1) sent to the City Treasurer and Mr. Buchanan.-— Yours faithfully, D. Norgrove, jhr." . The letter to the City Treasurer reads: "13, Sussex Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland, August 1, 1928. The City Treasurer, Town Hall, Auokland. Dear Sir,— With reference to my inquiry about my brother's grave, I wish to state that the origin of this trouble arose through a family disagreement, but neither I nor my family had. any intention of pressing the demand ma.de on Mr. Buchanan; , ' "We regret that the matter has gone i so. far, but so far as we are concerned, nothing more wilj be heard of it. "A copy of this letter is being sent to Mr. Buchanan.— Yours faith- , fully, D. Norgrove, jnr." r ."Truth" congratulates the Norgrove family on the step they have taken. This paper suggests, however,. on behalf of the dead woman's relatives, that an intimation be also despatched to them, making it clear that no obstacle will be placed m their way m the matter of erecting a headstone over Ernestina Norgrove's grave. - To Mrs. Norgrove's relatives, this is of paramount importance. They hold no title^to the grave; this is held, by the Norgrove family m the person of Alan George Norgrove's father, . .: . It is their earnest desire suitably to mark the last resting-place of their murdered relative and her husband — and this natural desire. must not be denied them. "Truth" feels confident that the Norgroye family will, m view of David Norgrove's letter, take this further step to remove the stigma of an unmarked grave from the relatives of Ernestina Norgrbvjßd
