ORDINARY LOT
Three -Year-Olds Discussed
(From" N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland ' . ' ■ . ' •;■ ''Rep.):- ••' ; ■/:' ■ .- '" There are a good many three- : year-olds working at Ellerslie at the present time. . : : , \ / LJORSES of this age invariably at--1 *"'■ tract attention at this period' bftho year". and naturally their prospects are already being? discussed. ' Some', are making very : satisfactory^ progress and give promise of being useful. ; Still there is nothing showing ' sufficient quality to suggest the likelihood of gaining classic honors. " On two-year-old form Gold Money and . Avoneourt are the pick of the bunch by virtue of their successes m juvenile handicaps. ■. The former has not come under notice lately, -but Avoncourt is well forward and has developed into a-... verysolid •filly. She is, still eligible for hack; events, but should soon, run into better company. Although it is doubtful whether she will be anything better than a useful mare at distances up to a mile. " ' ' "' . . As they have been working usefully all through the ;winter, ' Bulolo and Monetize are m fine order for the time of the year. Both these geldings possess'apeed. It is probable that they will race at Mat-ton and Wanganui where there will be races to suit. Nothing, very strenuouß has been exacted from Red Lion lately, but he is steadily improving m condition and the next couple of months should do a lot for him. Very little was required* ot this high-priced' gelding m the way of racing last season and this was probably a, wise.'pollcy. Thefj there , Is Sir Russell, which also had an easy time as a juvenile. This fellow has size dnd substance and has probably done more work than any of the locals of hi» age during the winter and thrived on i It. Sir ■'Russell: may not prove up to classic standard, but all going right m the meantime he should be a good* one to exploit m minor company m the spring. '.'-■•'' y ; -. f -, '■ .'• .. .■; Beau Cavalier's broken tail is not distracting his attention- to cbuslhess. He was sent once round over the, steeplechase', fences . : last > week. The pace was solid all, the, way. He hpoked the first- three/ feticep,, but. cleared the • remainder m; bis best style. He Is very well, and will have plenty of fi lends when he steps out at Rlccartqn.
