LEADING SIRE

Lucullus and Two of His Tribe

(From . "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) It oame as a. bit of a surprise to ' most people to find that Lucullus headed the list of winning sires m New Zealand during the past season. THE son of Ard Patrick was bred In 1 Germany and prior to finding his way out to New Zealand, was sold m •England for something like 25 gns. His - stock have won upwards of £80,000 m this country, but for Lucullub to top the list of winning sires was hardly looked for, though it has to be remembered that his sire, Ard Patrick figured as an English Derby winner. There are many of the Lucullus family still left up north to keep his name green.'. Most of them have displayed a tendency to go particularly . well when the turf is on the soft side. Two of his best performers of recent date are Glendowie and King Lu. The last-named may probably go to the stud himself this season, and is certainly framed on great lines to give out hope. As for Glendowie, it seems certain that his days of stake-earning are nowhere near ending yet.
