Pirates' Fall Caused By Infringement (From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) Kaikorai were almost deprived of a winning chance m the Dunedin championship when they scored a lucky' win over Pirates last Saturday. Had Pirates scored the win they deserved, the premiership would, have been a gift for Varsity. I^AIKORAI are two points behind the 1 students, and therefore have to beat tHerii twice to wiri : the flag. They have the hardest part to do, for on recent performances the students look, a ten points better team. ; All interest 'in .the competition now devolves upon next Saturday's meeting between Varsity and the hlllsiders. If the students play up ,'to form, they should .ring the curtain down on the '1928 competition with their third successive win and their -sixth m seven years. .' The Pirates-Kaikorai match was a very drab affair, far removed from the standard of play expected from teams occupying- such prominent places on the senior, roll of fame as these combinations do. ...'•' No tries were scored, Kaikorai' s six points comprising penalty goals by Ron. The Pirates forwards started off : at a great clip, breaking through ■'- with snappy : rushes, and heeling the ball well from the ruck, while Hook and Lawless repeatedly won the ball from McMeeking and McHardy m set scrums. Manuel, who played first fiveeighths m place of Mardori, defended well, but was not decisive enough m attacking movements. 'Had he run closer up to Laing before passing, his sffie might hive fared better. •;'■' Faulks again stagnated the aggressive efforts of his side and it is apparent that the promising winger, Graham, is going to get no chances to prove his worth to: the Otago selectors while Faulks. is playing centre. Graham's play has only gone back because he has seen so little of the, ball.
