LITTLE YET

Youngsters With Prospects (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckj land Rep.) As the new season advances, matters do not look promising for Ellerslie turning out a two-year-old of more than ordinary calibre. THERE are certainly a shade over a dozen being worked into shape at northern headquarters, "but nothing likely to .pace it with the opposition when it comes to tackling the rich stake-money on offer for juveniles. Anyhow, the new season may be well ; advanced before those m hand at Ellerslie will be caught at their best. There is only one importation, a : Treclare— Headlight colt m J. Wil- '. liamson's stable. The same trainer has a Ally by Tea Tray — Cultriform, certainly well enough bred to give promise. Cecil Emanuel has a filly by Tea Tray — Duchess Eudorus : and a colt by Tea Tray— Volopia, while T. George is educating a daughter of Tea TrayJolly Princess. Others on the move are: Blue Grey (filly by. Valkyrian— Mumble) and Neil (gelding by Lucullus—Little Flower) trained by J. Buchanan. Bennie, colt by Mountain Knight— Philetus, trained by W. Tozer, and Lady Val, filly by Valkyrian— Lady Marble, trained by F. Stenning. 7 A gelding by Lucullus — Avon Park, is with F. Gilchrist, while a filly by Tea Tray — Miss Norval, is under A. Julian's care. A filly by Surveyor — Lady Potoa is m R. E. Brown's stables. The brother to Lomint m J. Thorpe's I charge is at present resting after an operation. A little time is required if any of. the bunch mentioned is to become really great. i Wanganui trainers did not make a start with their youngsters until a couple of weeks later than was the case- m other parts. Consequently the river city juveniles are not so forward as many outsiders, but there is no i. question as to the quality of the ; Wanganui contingent being equal to the best. * "■ ...*. ■ • Solferite already has many friends 1 for the Winter Cup, which he won last year. Trainer J, B. Pearson certainly has the gelding m great heart and galloping as well as ever he did.
