"Gran" Is Back
SHE. is "Gran.," not only to her daughter's children, but even to friends of her own generation, so that they have to think a little sometimes before remembering that she is really Mrs. Howorth. She was meant to be a, composer, but this needs special training. Even now, however, she will often improvise on the piano for her friends. As a. girl singer, she was known m the St. Andrew's choir, Dunedin, and also on the concert platform, while she has also dramatic gifts. When, widowhood' came to her, she took up business and has been m many occupations, including the Public Service for a few years, while she does not mind her world knowing that she has played for cinemas. Just back from a tour, of America, she states that this country is the easiest place to make money—-and also to spend it. The spending is also necessary, so that you are' continually returning to the status quo. Like so many of us, she announces herself glad to return to her New Zealand home—m her case Wellington.
