PLENTY OF IT

Have Big Pull' r (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland . ■■'••■ ' "•' . ' ; # ' Re P->: ■■■-, .' ■ At Trentham last week an experienced Hawkes Bay. trainer ex-pressed-the opinion that it was no good looking for anything but Auckland horses to win the big jumping events. ■ .'■ . AND so it proved, for the three i.rich ** jumping stakes all came. northWellington Steeplechase to P6uri, v Winter Hurdles to Beau Cavalier, and July Steeplechase", to K&wini. The argument used by the ; trainer concerned was that the northern-owned horses had. better opportunities lor schooling. That continual schooling . told the tale. '-.■"■■,■• There is probably something m the argument/too, for it cannot be denied that there have been exceptional opportunitiesl up north this year. It has to be admitted there is not a great number .of competent fencers about this .winter, but the Auckland tribe have . had plenty . of schooling. Then the holding Of Te Kuiti at.Ellerslie this, winter certainly gave the Wellington Steeplechase winner, Pouri, . the nepessary experience to fit him. . Results so far this winter go a long way towards proving that consistent schooling plays its' part. Both Great Northerns, the Winter Steeplechase 1 at Ellerslie, the Wellington Steeplechase, the July Steeplechase and the Winter Hurdles at Trentham have all been won by northerners. Then, again, it has to be noted that Glendowie, the Great Northern and Winter winner, probably, indulged m a more consistent schooling preparation m the hunting field than any Great Northern hero of the past.
