BAD VERDICT THE INCIDENT
THE Wellington amateur championships did not leave much to enthuse over, and, outside a couple of boys, the talent \was of the 'very ordinary nature. >f» ' In Cyril Hurne and Herb. Rathner the association has the chance of picking up a couple of titles at Auckland next month — the former has only to give of his best to, be all but a- certainty. The most outstanding incident of the two evenings came with the last fight of the tournament. •„ In it were engaged the two. heavy-weight contenders — Hooper, the policeman, and Pickrang, the footballer. It was not a good exhibition, but there was not the least possible doubt that Pickrang was the better man — m all ways. Yet the decision was given to Hooper, and the crowd had every reason for going crook. And if Pickrang had been white instead of colored he would have had more on his side. .Boxing is too good- a game to mess up, so let the decision go to the right man, be he white or brown.
