Happy Hitchcock
THE average visitor to Christchurch is supposed to comment on the English aspect of the city. Actually; he. does not do so; but, before his holiday conies to an end, lie invariably praises the electrical arrangements that are a feature of the Catnedral City. The municipal electrical department of Christchurch is indeed a "live" concern. It does more than retail electrical power. It makes sure that its customers are perfectly satisfied and that they v are having all the benefits which lie concealed m a switch. Of course, there is a man with a personality at the' head of affairs — E. Hitchcock, general manager. Hitchcock has push and vim enough to make any American business man decidedly jealous. • Yet he never loses sight of the fact that, at best, life is short and that evei'yone can relish a little pleasure now and then. •.'■-. ■ He is noted among the many employees under his command as a man who will give anybody a "fair go." As a result, the M.E.D. is a decidedly pleasant place from a 'worker's point of view. • ■ ; ■ ; ■
