SECOND TIME
Grpwd Tripped By Hardy Sort (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland ■':■- ,; ..-. Rep.) It does not take punters long to drop a horse, and so it happened m the case of Thursby. LIE proved himself of the hardy ** nature when he romped to victory m the Farewell sprint at Ellerslie early last week. Thursby^gave a glimpse- of his true galloping 1 ability when he finished third tq Corinax and Stormy over the York Mile on the final day of the Great Northern fixture. ..,'■■ /. In that event he was only nine* teenth favorite! That performance caught the public's fancy and he was installed first favorite m the Te Kuiti Handicap, m, which he could do no better- than finish fifth to Tinakoa and Co. Then on the final day of the meeting he was made third favorite, and after leading the field dropped back to fourth at. the close. Less than three hours later he was saddled up for the open sprint, when he displayed undoubted hardness by trouncing the fresh opposition m great style. ■ ' . It proved a bitter pill for punters to swallow, but it showed Thursby up m. a promising light. . Kaikahu has been indulged . m a lot of steady work. He is m at Wellington.- ■ • ■ .' V- ;■■■■•
